Illegitimi Non Carborundum

I may or may not alienate some of my friends in the due course of this "soap-boxing". I almost want to have a disclaimer on that says I am as secular as they come but please make no mistake, Secularism is NOT Atheism and if you are my friend, you know me well enough.

I see Modi being branded as a "Hindu nationalist", on all News Stories and Social Media as though it is a taint. I've also noticed a very distinct split along communal lines in my own friends circle to the same effect. In a country that is almost 80% Hindu, following a religion that has no concept of conversion - in fact you are either born a Hindu or not - why is it wrong for an openly Hindu person who extols the virtues and goodness on the religion to take up the leadership of the country?

I agree, there are still some unanswered questions regarding his participation, even by absence, in the Gujarat riots. It is possible that it is "guilt" that drove all the economic improvements he brought along in Gujarat, but if there is marked improvement in the state why can we not accept it, even if it was an act of atonement? If the only other option for the country is the INC (UPA really but who are we kidding?), then "Illegitimi non carborundum". Because they WOULD grind our economy to a dust(if that is still possible) and spread it to all 4 corners of the world. Did anybody seriously think after 10 years of utter failure and a total mockery of the word "Progress", a party led by a clueless 43 year old would ride back to the top spot again on a wave of forecasted partisanship?

Change has come to our country, you either get on the wagon or you don't but the hope is it will be progress for both on and off....

Ab Ki Baar, Modi Sarkaar!

PS - Illegitimi non carborundum: "Don't let the bastards grind you down".
